Mr. Kempf is a Senior Advisor of Gleacher & Company. He was previously a Senior Advisor to Gleacher Partners. Prior to joining Gleacher & Company, Mr. Kempf served as Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, Secretary and member of the Management Committee at Morgan Stanley for six years. Before that, he spent 35 years with Kirkland & Ellis, including 18 years on its Management Committee. Mr. Kempf has been counsel in a wide variety of M&A situations, representing target and tendering firms in takeovers, acquiring and divesting firms in transactions (including transactions challenged by the government and private parties), firms involved in proxy contests and other corporate governance matters, management, directors and companies in merger-related securities matters and investment banks and arbitrageurs in evaluating securities, antitrust, regulatory and litigation aspects of proposed transactions. Mr. Kempf is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Kempf has a law degree from Harvard and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Prior to law school, he was an officer in the Marine Corps. He has served on the boards of United Charities of Chicago (past Chairman), the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, New York City Opera and numerous professional organizations.
